What's your True Motivation?

Motivation in Human Design: Aligning with Your True Energy

Understanding your motivation in Human Design is a game-changer! It's the fuel behind your actions, shaping how you show up in the world. When we’re not fully living in alignment with our Strategy and Authority, it’s easy to fall into the trap of our transferred (not-self) motivation. Knowing this dynamic has been life-changing for me—especially as someone motivated by Innocence. Learning that Desire is my transferred motivation freed me from unnecessary pressure and stress, particularly in business, and allowed me to embrace a more agenda-free approach to life.

Here’s why this intel matters:

Clarity: Understand what drives you and what distracts you.

Stress Relief: Release the pull of transferred motivations that aren’t truly yours.

Authenticity: Show up aligned with your unique purpose and flow.

Here’s a breakdown of the 6 Motivations and their transferred counterparts:

Innocence → Desire

True Motivation: Observing life without attachment or agenda.

Transferred: Stress from needing outcomes or goals to validate your path.

Desire → Innocence

True Motivation: A clear focus on goals and improvement for the collective.

Transferred: Detachment from goals, leading to a lack of direction.

Hope → Guilt

True Motivation: Trusting in the bigger picture and staying optimistic.

Transferred: Feeling responsible for fixing what’s broken.

Guilt → Hope

True Motivation: Taking action to solve problems and help others.

Transferred: Becoming passive or overly optimistic without action.

Need → Fear

True Motivation: Seeking and fulfilling what's essential for yourself and others.

Transferred: Feeling paralyzed by fear and scarcity.

Fear → Need

True Motivation: Precaution and preparation to navigate uncertainty.

Transferred: Feeling stuck in constant need or seeking external validation.

Motivation is a powerful guide when understood and aligned. If you don’t know your Motivation yet, check out your Human Design chart on the HumDes app and watch the short video below diving deeper into this!

My motivation is Guilt------->Hope. I see that I'm definitely motivated by guilt, but it doesn't FEEL good? I've been trying to change this all along, switching to HOPE thinking it was more in alignment with how I should be/feel? It's obviously not working at all for me, but it FEELS a little better. Does that make sense? How can I balance this to work better for myself? 🤔
